what I use
I am going a little more in-depth here for my gua sha facial treatments because I'm not an aesthetician, but this is your face :).
I focus on the treatment of deeper tissues; muscle, fascia, and lymphatic systems. In treating these systems patients may notice a temporary reduction of wrinkles (caused by repetitive muscle use) and reduced puffiness (from lymphatic congestion), and may leave you feeling glowy and flushed (from the movement of circulation via massage), in addition to reduced tension.
I've tried to balance safe, gentle products for the skin that will help release tension and restore tissue health, but this is NOT a skin or cosmetic treatment.
Gua Sha products used:
Coconut oil
Use: neck & shoulder massage
Benefits: lightweight & non-greasy, absorbs quickly without leaving a sticky residue, moisturizes the skin, leaving it soft and supple after every use. It is odourless & colourless, and suitable for sensitive, dry, and oily skin without causing irritation.
Jojoba oil
Use: facial massage
Benefits: may balance oil production, hydrate dry skin, and generally considered safe for acne-prone skin, sensitive skin, and redness. It is packed with vitamins and minerals and is rich in antioxidants that may encourage collagen synthesis. It's also native to North America! *has a natural golden colour
Witch Hazel Toner
Use: initial facial surface cleanse
Benefits: I use an alcohol-free witch hazel to avoid drying out. Easily removes surface dirt, grime, and excess traces of makeup. It may help combat skin issues like irritation, redness and congestion. Another North America native plant!
Hypochlorous Acid spray
Use: pre- & post- treatment disinfectant
Benefits: made from electrolyzed saline (water + salt) Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) is a naturally occurring substance that is created within the body as well. It has strong antimicrobial properties and kills harmful bacteria, but it is considered gentle on skin–even sensitive skin.
Peppermint oil
Use: scalp massage
Benefits: helps ease headache, muscle aches, joint pain, and itching. leaves a lovely tingly feeling, but can increase sensitivity to heat or cold so consider bringing a hat or scarf!
note: I take cross-contamination very seriously, cleansing and sanitizing my hands between tools and areas of the body. however, with this treatment, I cannot completely guarantee there will be no cross-contamination (ie hairline to face, neck to face) so if you have any concerns about any products please let me know!
